So it's been a few days since I have experienced my leg and foot on fire. Also, generally my pain is even more diminished. My foot is still partially numb with pins and needles and I can still feel the exact path of my sciatic nerve through my entire leg but overall I'm beginning to feel hopeful that overall the therapy is making a difference. They've only been stretching me for two weeks and I still have 3 days a week for the next 4 weeks to go so hopefully it will only continue to improve.
The change in diet is going well. I haven't stepped on the scale but I am feeling good about what I'm eating and how much I'm eating. At the beginning I was hungry but now it is much better. I like The Zone because you can get very nitpicky and count and measure everything or you can sort of eyeball it - 1/3 plate lowfat / nofat protein, 2/3 plate low carb/ low sugar veggies plus a little tiny bit of healthy fat. At this point I am eyeballing it. I figure the longer I do this the easier it will eventually be to really make it work. Considering what I was eating before, just this simple change in diet will have an effect.
Just over 9 weeks of the school year left and I will have survived my first year of teaching.
