a bit of tedious embarassment

The other day I declared to William, "Mr. Ed was really a zebra." He of course scoffed and asked me where I found my information. On the internet, of course. I was absolutly adament that my information was correct.

Now I'm usually pretty good about sorting internet fact from internet fiction and I don't believe everything I read on the internet but I thought this information was from a reliable source. You see I added Snopes onto my Yahoo! homepage not too long ago. I was persuing the various Urban ledgens floating around when I came across this.

Today I was bound and determined to prove Will wrong. I reread the page feeling justified in my claim when I decided to click on the "More Information About This Page" link.

False Authority
Claim: Common sense dictates that you should never fully rely upon
someone else to do fact checking for you. But who has time for common sense?

Origins: If you're reading this page, chances are you're here because something about one or all of the entries in The Repository Of Lost Legends(TROLL) section of this site struck you as a tadge suspect, if not downright
wrong.

If any or all of the stories in this section caused your internal clue
phone to ring, we hope you didn't let the answering machine take the call. That niggling little voice of common sense whispering to you in the background was right — there was something wrong with what you read.

You've just had an enounter with False Authority Syndrome.

D'oh!
Ok Will...feel free to make fun of me now.

In my best imagined Nelson voice, "Ha - Ha".

Thanks for sharing that, this is a very interesting page about how these legends spread.

I'd make a pun about making a wild ass of yourself, but I don't want to put my hoof in my mouth.

LMAO
...and not laughing at you mind you....*snicker*
Simply laughing at the fact of the whole Urban legand thing and how many of them people believe. I've received so many emails from my mom, and others, claiming this, that, and the other. The first thing I do is research it and send them the link to the truth. Nothing more. I was duped once, in a money scheme. Never again.
I say Mr. Ed was a giraff really.......

Hey, did you hear they took "gullible" out of the dictionary?

If I had a nickle for every time I fell for that....
